Description:In 1999, a group of grassroots volunteers decided to start an organization to combat poverty. Soon after, Be'er-Sova was founded. To this day, be'er-Sova is the only food security provider in Be'er Sheva. Through varied programs, we are able to feed hundreds of hungry people, everyday. In 2004, the board of directors realized that food security alone is not an answer so they expanded to offer educational programs for youth at high-risk. Currently, our mission and vision has stayed the same and we are attempting to expand services even more.
Programs:Restaurant for the Needy- The only soup kitchen in Be'er Sheva Meals on Wheels for the Elderly- This program delivers over 80 hot meals to disabled seniors, most of whom are Holocaust Survivors. Gamal After-School Program for Youth at High-Risk- This is an after-school program designed to help kids ages 12-15 with everything from schoolwork to social change. There are hot meals delivered to the program everyday. Food Packages-This is actually broken down into 2 separate programs. The first is for needy families and the second is for Ethiopian Immigrants. Monthly, welfare services sends us a list of families in need and we make food packages for every month. Family Evening- This program enables needy families to come to our restaurant for the needy after service hours to spend quality time together and eat a hot, nutritious meal together. For the families in this program this evening is usually the only restaurant outing for them. Snadwiches for Bedouin Schoolchildren- This program is designed to feed 300 schoolchildren everyday.
Accomplishments:
  • Successfully provided meals to hundreds, for 10 years.
  • Expansion to provide educational programs.
  • Annual concert, all proceeds go to our programs.
Future Objectives:
  • Combat Poverty
  • Promote social change
  • Empower the needy community in Be'er Sheva
Effectiveness:All programs have bi-annual surveys which help determine whether or not programs are as effective as possible.
